One place of Los Nevados National Natural Park that can be visited from Pereira is the Santa Isabel Snowy Mountain, found right after Santa Rosa de Cabal after a journey of 4-6 hours to the southeast, and a long promenade from Otún Lake. The snowy mountain summit, 4.965 meters above sea level tall (16.300 ft.) can be reached in one day only. The tour begins in the Plaza de Bolivar in Pereira at 4:00 a.m (transport TO the Plaza non included). You board a 4x4 truck and climb up. In Santa Isabel you’ll have to walk at least 5 hours in extreme conditions, being clearly recommended for experienced trekkers only. At the end of the day, you’ll be taken back to the Plaza de Bolivar in Pereira.
